Brief History
The Palmdale General Plan was first adopted in 1993. While there have been updates to the three elements since the General plan adoption (Community Design Element; Parks, Recreation and Trails Element; and the Housing Element), the entire General Plan has not been comprehensively updated in over 25 years.
The existing General Plan includes nine elements – six mandatory and three optional. The following table lists the elements and when each was last comprehensively updated.
All the required nine general plan elements, associated maps, goals, policies, measures and/or actions that define the City’s vision for the next ten to twenty years will be revised. In addition to the mandated elements, the revision will address the protection and preservation of cultural resources, climate vulnerability and greenhouse gas reduction strategies, and military readiness in separate elements, which was not done in the early 1990s update of the General Plan.
